Facebook launched Shops in 2020 to help customers discover small businesses on the platform. Since then, it’s become a hub for online shopping: In 2025, global online shoppers said they were most likely to make purchases on Facebook compared to other social commerce sites.
If you’re on Shopify, setting up a Facebook Shop is as easy as adding an additional sales channel to your ecommerce store. You can sync product information, manage orders, and create ads directly from your Shopify admin.
Ahead, learn how shopping on Facebook works and how to set up and manage a Facebook Shop from your Shopify admin or manually.
What are Facebook Shops?
Facebook Shops are storefronts on Facebook where users can browse products without leaving the app. Businesses set up their own Facebook Shops, which are accessible through a tab on their profiles.
How do Facebook Shops work?
When shoppers are ready to buy something from a Facebook Shop, they’re directed to the company’s ecommerce site checkout page. There are no Facebook Shop transaction fees for customers or businesses.
Because checkout happens on ecommerce websites, store owners are responsible for tax facilitation. As of August 2025, Shopify store owners are responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax on all orders. Shopify provides help documentation for setting up taxes.
Brands can create a Facebook Shop from scratch or by using an ecommerce integration like the Facebook & Instagram app for Shopify. This app lets businesses set up and manage Shops on Facebook and Instagram from their Shopify admins.
After your Facebook Shop is up and running, you can drive traffic to it by running Shops ads. These are clickable Facebook ads that direct viewers to either your Facebook Shop or your ecommerce website.
Facebook Shop requirements
To be eligible to open a Facebook Shop in 2026, you’ll need to meet Meta’s commerce policies. These lay out general rules for selling on Facebook. You’ll also need to adhere to other Meta policies including the platform’s community standards and seller agreements.
Here are a few key requirements to opening a Facebook Shop:
-
Have an established online presence, which might include an established follower base.
-
Provide accurate information about your business.
-
Follow Meta policies including the community standards, which bar you from posting hateful content, bullying, engaging in fraud, and other behaviors.
-
Sell physical goods other than vehicles, and make sure your catalog isn’t connected to another shop.
-
Be in a supported country (e.g., the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and several European and Asian countries).
-
Verify your domain.
How to set up and manage your Facebook Shop with Shopify
- Download the Facebook & Instagram app
- Connect your Facebook account
- Follow the prompts
- Manage your inventory
If you already have a Shopify store, you can create a Facebook Shop using an app integration. Here’s how to set up a Facebook Shop with Shopify:
1. Download the Facebook & Instagram app

In the Shopify App Store, download the Facebook & Instagram app. Then, from your Shopify admin, navigate to Sales Channels > Facebook & Instagram > Get started.
2. Connect your Facebook account

Connect your Facebook account to your Shopify admin. You’ll need a Facebook business page, which you can set up from an existing personal account (the two pages won’t be publicly linked).
3. Follow the prompts
Shopify’s setup wizard walks you through every step of setting up your Facebook Shop. (You’ll also have the option to set up an Instagram Shop at this stage.)
As you click through the setup questions, select your desired level of data sharing and if you want to install the Meta pixel on your Shopify site. The Meta pixel is a line of code that tracks customer behavior, allowing you to retarget Facebook and Instagram users who have visited your site in the past with ads.

When you’re done, Meta will review your Facebook Shop. This can take up to four weeks. During this process, Meta checks to make sure your store adheres to its commerce eligibility requirements.
4. Manage your inventory
Your products will automatically sync between Shopify and your Facebook Shop. If you’re in the United States, your Collections will also sync to your Facebook Shop. When you edit product details on Shopify, those changes will also appear on your Facebook Shop.
If you want to remove certain products from your Facebook Shop, from your Shopify admin, navigate to Products > Collections. Select the products you want to hide, then select Manage from the Product availability section of the Product details page. Uncheck Facebook from the Manage sales channels options menu. When you’re finished, select Done, then Save.
How to create a Facebook Shop manually
If you don’t use Shopify, you can create a Facebook Shop with Meta Commerce Manager. Here’s how:
1. Create a Commerce Manager account

Your Commerce Manager account is where you’ll manage your Facebook Shop.
Start at the Commerce Manager sign-up page, log into your personal Facebook account, and select “Get started.” When you set up your account, you’ll have the option to create a Facebook business page. If you already have a business page, you’ll link your new Commerce Manager account to it.
Choose your ecommerce platform or the “I don’t use these platforms” option, then select Next.
2. Create your shop
At the top of your Commerce Manager account, navigate to Create your shop. Choose which Facebook page you’d like to connect to your account, then add shop details including your contact information, return window, and checkout URL.
When you’re done, read through Meta’s seller agreement and check the box to agree to it. Then select Submit for review.
3. Add your catalog
Your catalog includes all the products you plan to sell in your Facebook Shop. To begin your catalog upload, navigate to Get started > Add products. After you add items the first time, you’ll add products through the Catalog tab.
There are a few ways to get your products on your new shop:
-
Partner platform. Use Meta’s ecommerce platform integration feature to connect a supported platform and automatically sync products from your ecommerce site.
-
Manual. Fill in forms for each product you want to upload.
-
Data feed. Bulk upload products with a spreadsheet or XML file.
-
Website. Allow Meta to crawl your website and add and update products.
-
Facebook page. Let Meta use AI to crawl your page for products in ads and posts, then add those products to your catalog.
-
Meta pixel. Use the Meta pixel to automatically sync products from your site to Facebook. (According to Meta, you might need help from a developer for this option.)
-
Catalog batch API. Use advanced coding with help from a developer to add items to your Facebook Shop.
4. Set up shipping profiles
From Commerce Manager, navigate to Settings > Edit > Shipping and returns. From here, you can add or edit shipping profiles. You’ll add information on where you ship to as well as shipping times and rates. You’ll also select which products are available for different shipping options.
