Facebook ad sizes at a glance
Though Facebook ad sizes vary according to multiple factors, these are the basic specs you’ll need to keep in mind for different ad placements across the platform:

Image ads
These are single-image or GIF ads. They appear across the Facebook platform.
As of May 2026, there’s no limit to the amount of text you can include in image ads, but Facebook encourages advertisers to keep them “uncluttered,” noting that too much text can be distracting. The platform also encourages brands to stick to a single focal point rather than asking ad viewers to look at more than one thing.

Carousel ads
Facebook carousel ads include between two and 10 images or videos within a single ad. These images or videos appear as a swipeable slideshow.
Each slide can include its own link, call to action (CTA), headline, and description. You can use carousel ads to sell on Facebook by including CTAs that direct ad viewers to your Facebook Shop, where users can browse products without leaving the Facebook app.
If you’re on Shopify, you can set up a Facebook Shop by installing the Facebook & Instagram app to your Shopify storefront. This automatically syncs your product catalog with Facebook so you can create shoppable carousel ads without having to manually import your products.

Video ads
Video ads appear on both desktop and mobile devices across a range of placements, including between short-form videos in the Reels tab and on users’ news feeds. They can be as long as 241 minutes, depending on the placement, but Facebook doesn’t recommend going longer than 15 seconds on average.

Facebook advertising guidelines
Before you start creating Facebook ads, make sure you meet Meta’s Advertising Standards. These include following Meta’s Community Standards. Among other rules, these standards ban companies from promoting fraudulent products or services or running ads with sensational or violent content.
They also don’t allow companies to publish content “implying or attempting to generate negative self-perception” to promote weight-loss or health products.
Facebook Feed ad sizes
Users see Facebook Feed ads mixed in with organic posts from friends, groups, and pages they follow. Advertisers can display image, video, and carousel ads in this placement.

There are a few other Facebook ad placements to consider:
Search results ads
Search results ads appear to users searching on the main Facebook site as well as on Facebook Marketplace. Facebook notes that they give advertisers the opportunity to connect with users who are already in the “discovery mindset.”
You can run image, video, and carousel ads in this placement. The ad size will depend on the format you choose.

Audience Network
Meta Audience Network is a collection of third-party apps and websites that allow brands to advertise on their platform through Meta. Running Audience Network ads lets you retarget customers across multiple touchpoints, since you can show them ads on Meta platforms as well as on third-party sites.
To set up Meta retargeting ads with a Shopify website, install the Meta pixel. This is a line of code that tracks shoppers’ behavior on your site. You’ll be prompted to add this as you install the Facebook & Instagram app for Shopify.
The Audience Network supports image, carousel, and video ads. The ad size depends on the ad type.
Business Explore
Business Explore ads appear below organic posts from other businesses. When a user clicks on one of these posts, they’ll see a section titled “Explore more in [category].” This displays ads from related companies. For example, if a user clicks on a post from a hair salon, they might see Business Explore ads for hair product companies.
The ad size for Business Explore advertisements depends on the ad type.
